Hulu: Black Cake

Imagine going through life out of place and in hiding.... then finally , you find out your last days are approaching and you want to come clean.. so you finally tell your story

Hulu has a series called Black Cake that is so good beauties. This story focus on a woman who was born Coventina “Covey” Lyncook, an Afro-Chinese Caribbean girl escapes the tragedies she endured in the United Kingdom by using her absent mother’s maiden name, Brown.

As she continues to run from her past, she experiences even more hardships and leaves her no choice but to adopt another name, Eleanor Douglas, which she uses until she changes her surname when she marries.

Eleanor leaves behind 3 children, 2 who grew up together and one that was left for adoption due to an unfortunate circumstance. Eleanor left recording behind detailing every aspect of her life and to make a mend of her past.  The Black Cake was left in the freezer by Eleanor was to bring them [her children] together as a family and to make sense of everything they had heard on the recordings.

This series speaks on family secrets or lies and hardship that many of us face today. Allow this series to speak to you in knowing your truth, telling your truth and owning your truth before it is too late. As a parent, you do not want to have your children suffer in your life and miss out on theirs by not knowing who they are or where they come from.

Love is a powerful action that we always feel can heal everything, but a secret can destroy before even beginning.
